Her area of special interest and experience is in healthy aging. Teaching children brings joy and enthusiasm, which spills over into sessions with adults experiencing more serious health issues. Pat attended the first annual Symposium on Yoga Therapy and Research, and aims to provide a therapeutic form of yoga when indicated. Pat's students report that her classes seem like spa sessions, since she pampers them with blankets, bolsters and eye pillows in a setting with soft music and candles. Pat replies that the enjoyment is mutual! Doug Blessington Drum Therapist, Plant Spirit Medicine Practitioner
After majoring in Anthropology and Religious Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Doug continued his studies of indigenous traditions and healing by attending and completing Eliot Cowan's Plant Spirit Medicine Training Course; studying in Mexico and South Africa; and exploring the depths of the medicine that the djembe has to offer. Currently, he travels to Healing Camps to teach drumming, offers private and group drumming sessions, and is a Plant Spirit Medicine Practitioner. Doug uses drumming as a form of catharsis and medium of communication to foster transformative and heartening experiences. He utilizes his knowledge of indigenous African wisdom of the djembe and traditional 5-Element Chinese theory in his work with the drum. When not drumming, Doug is most likely attempting to tell a joke around a fire with friends, which would promptly be followed by more drumming.
